Saskatchewan

25% Base Rate Up to 35% with bonuses combined with federal
Service Production Grant Last updated: April 2026

Endless prairie horizons, dramatic skies, and small-town Saskatchewan charm — perfect for period pieces and rural settings.

Saskatchewan offers a grant (not a tax credit) through Creative Saskatchewan. US service productions qualify for the Service Production Stream at 25% of eligible expenditures, with bonuses up to 35%. (The 30% Saskatchewan Stream requires Saskatchewan ownership and is not available to foreign service productions.) Because it's a grant, payout is faster — typically 4–6 weeks after acceptance.

Incentive Programs

Service Production25% of eligible SK expenditures (for US/foreign service productions)
SK Stream (CanCon)30% — requires SK ownership (not available to US service productions)
Frequent Filming+10% bonus for returning producers
Rural Production+5% for production outside major centres
Post-Production+5% for post-production activities in Saskatchewan
Federal PSTCFederal credits apply separately

Post-Production & VFX Partial Eligibility

Partially — post-production in Saskatchewan qualifies for a dedicated +5% bonus. Productions must still meet market trigger requirements (20% of costs from third-party distribution/funding).

Minimum Spend

No explicit minimum spend, but must secure a market trigger (≥20% of eligible costs from distribution agreements or federal funding).

VFX Rate

No separate VFX bonus beyond the +5% post-production bonus. Post costs qualify under the base 25–30% rate plus the 5% post bonus.

This is a direct cash grant, not a tax credit — faster payout (4–6 weeks). The $5M project cap and $10M annual budget limit larger productions. Saskatchewan eliminated its tax credit in 2012; this grant program is the replacement.
